Singer-songwriting, John Lyzenga, creates art that seeks and explores the divine in all living things while also naming the harm inflicted upon those whose inherent divinity has often been denied. In 2019, he released his debut album (In Troubled Times) which held a mirror to the American Christian Church exploring the intersections of race, gender, and sexuality in light of the biblical witness. His newest single (Her Love) affirms God’s identity as one who stays with us in pain drawing from biblical, feminine imagery for God.
John lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and has collaborated with other artists including Bifrost Arts, Porter’s Gate, and Page CXVI. Born outside Chicago, Illinois, and raised in West Michigan, John attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and received his Masters from San Francisco Theological Seminary in San Anselmo, California.
